Season 13 Week 7 Picks
[Editor’s Note: Last week the ghost writer managed to go 500. Pretty impressive, I thought I had them fooled on a couple spreads. I hope this week brings more of the same. Onward.]
Greetings, high rollers!
Six weeks down, two to go. And we’re just a little more than two weeks away from Super Saturday XIII (SSXIII). For the rookskees out there, please mark your calendars if you haven’t done so already…it’s a day like any other that should not be missed. While a lot of trophies and prizes are determined during the regular skeeson and playoffs, there are still a lot of trophies (and shots?!?) [Editor’s Note:Did someone say shots??] up for grabs specifically for SSXIII. Either way, it’s a good way to spend a Saturday and cut loose before the holidays.
Speaking of trophies, I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone that Pat “Alan” Bassett (Trickskee Little Hobbits) [Editor’s Note:Seriously, just call him Alan. Everyone knows who he is.] will walk away as the MVSkee of skeeBOSTON for skeeson 13. As if his lead going into last week wasn’t enough, Pat decided to roll an all-time high 535 and throw in his second perfect 900 frame this skeeson. My eyes and ears at TGB said it was quite a sight, and that 535 might stand forever…or at least until Pat decides to break it [Editor’s Note:It won’t be broken. Ever.] There is no runner-up prize (should there be since there is only one league night now?), but six other rollers are averaging above 400 through six weeks and within 10 points of each other…it’s anyone game to finish as Alan’s bridesmaid [Editor’s Note: ha. yes!] this season as the #2 seed for the high roller tourney (HRT) at SSXIII.
I mentioned last week the team race was still in doubt, but it now looks to be a two-team race. Skeeing is Believing and Thirstskee Thursdays are the only two teams to break 1000 every week so far (though Thursdays have a DNR to make up). There are still some other team DNRs lingering out there, so the last two weeks and makeups will go a long way to ultimately determining seeding for the playoffs.
While we’re on the team discussion, congrats to Magically Skeelicious for a skeeBOSTON skeeson-high 1188 last week, led by Ryan Geraghty’s 475. Even more impressive for a guy that hadn’t broken 400 so far this skeeson prior to last week[Editor’s Note: definitely the highest first time 400 score]. Live and die by the hundo!!
In other individual news, John Dawson (The Night is Dark) and Ryan Geraghty have separated themselves from the rest of the 40 Streak pack with six and five, respectively. Pat Bassett [Editor’s Note: ALAN!] leads the 50 Streak race with four, but five other rollers are lurking with at least two apiece. Scottie “Not Hottie” Sinclair has locked up the combo race and already tied the skeeBOSTON skeeson record of 13 – how many pounds will he gain this week eating all those combos!? Pat [Editor’s Note: ALAN] also has a nine hundo lead, with Chris Martin (I Got Roofskeed) nipping at his heels. [Editor’s Note: Alan wrapped that up.]
Cory Magno (Thirstskee Thursdays) and Tom Keane (Live Skee or Die) are in a four-point race for Rookskee of the Year. You’ll hear it in the playoffs, but you heard it here first, every ball matters!
Already [Editor’s Note: did you mean alrighty?!], let’s get to this week’s matchups. It was a more pedestrian week for yours truly at 7-7 [Editor’s Note:pay that juice baby!], but a few key matchups didn’t seem to break my way, including some big spreads. Let’s skee what Duke has in store this week.
6:30 Matches
No Mike in the Plumber’s Shed (-250) vs. Clearly We’re Not Golfers – I would like to see the golfers take it to the shed, but I don’t skee it happening. [Editor’s Note:trap set.]
I Got Roofskeed (-180) vs. Skeetastic – I’ll take Roofskeed giving the points, but I think it will be a close one. [Editor’s Note: another trap set.]
Beer! (-75) vs. Evil Skaneeval & The Hotskees – Evil Skaneeval is due to find their form, I like them getting points in a tough matchup.
7:30 Matches
I Skee Drunk People (-50) vs. Hundos for Marnskee – Not sure about the spread here, as Marnskee could win this one straight up (Paula Abdul just popped into my head). [Editor’s Note: 😉 ]
Brewskeez (-65) vs. Eskeemo Brothers – Brewskeez are going to run wild tonight and get back over the 900 mark. [Editor’s Note: you were supposed to take EB.]
The Night is Dark and Full of Skeeballs vs. Why So Skeerious (-20) – Another interesting line, as I expected The Night is Dark to be the favorite. I’ll take Team Dark in another one that an underdog could win outright. [Editor’s Note: When you’re wrong. You’re wrong. You’re wrong.]
8:30 Matches
Magically Skeelicious (-110) vs. Scrubskees – Don’t expect as many hundos from Ryan this week, but Skeelicious will have their hands full in this one. Have I bet against Scrubskees yet? If not, this is the first week.
Live Skee or Die (-150) vs. The Big Leballskee – Both teams came back to earth last week…which one rebounds stronger in week 7? Leballskee covers.
Thirtskee Thursdays (-85) vs. Snakes on a Lane – Seems like a lot of points for Thirtskee to cover against a top-ten opponent. I’ll take Snakes getting the points. [Editor’s Note: you should have seen the meltdown last night.]
9:30 Matches
Can’t Skee Straight (-50) vs. Can’t Believe It’s Not Gutter – Can’t Skee Straight seems to be finding its form, Gutter having a hard time cracking the mid-700s. I’ll lean Can’t Skee Straight in another tight one.
Ain’t Easy Being Skeezy vs. Who’s your daddy? (-30) – Who’s your Daddy is a 30 point favorite against Skeezy, who has a team average 50 points higher? I know Duke is thinking he outsmarted me on this one. Bet the house on Skeezy. My lock of the skeeson. [Editor’s Note: Really? Guess what lane Daddy rolled on last night? I’ll give you a hint, it starts with two.]
Skeezy Like Sunday Morning vs. Skeese Pizza (-10) – I love Hawaiian pizza.
10:30 Matches
Thirstkee Thursdays (O/U 1060) vs. B – Duke didn’t offer a line, though it seems like a clear cut victory for Thirtskee. But I’ll set the O/U line at 1060 and take the under.
Fettskee Wap vs. Boccskee (Pick ‘Em) – Looks like a great matchup of evenly ranked opponents. I’ll ride the hot hand and take Fettskee Wap. [Editor’s Note: if they show up.]
Skeecows vs. Run D.M.Skee (-130) – A solid line to end the night. Skeecows improving each of last few weeks, DM Skee due to bounce back after a tough week 6. I’ll take DM Skee giving the points.
16 days to Super Saturday XIII and counting….
Week 6: 7-7
Skeeson 13 Overall: 42-35
