Season 13 – Week 4 Picks
[Editor’s Note: One more week until I’m back… enjoy this weeks picks.. coming to you a little late.]
Greetings, high rollers! Week 3 is in the books and we had yet another team and another high roller leading the charge. Steve “Pinball” Robinson and his 455 led Snakes on a Lane to a team high 1111. Something tells me this will be another wide open tournament come playoff time and Super Saturday, very much like last skeeson with the draft, as there again seems to be a smaller gap between the top teams and top rollers than in seasons gone by. Skeeing is Believing (Ben, Eric, Marissa) currently sits atop the team rankings with Snakes lurking just 31 points behind. Defending HRT Champ Pat “Alan” Bassett is current the top roller with a big gap between him and Scottie “Too Hottie” Sinclair 29 points behind. That being said, there are a lot of DNRs out there (more than 20 by my count) that will have a big impact on the final standings.
While she is not playing this week, I have to give a shout out to Jess Bocca (Brewskees) who has steadily improved each of the first three weeks (268, 298, 318)…keep finding that forty! [Editor’s Note: That’s my girl!]
Unfortunately all of the crazy rolling in week 3 led to an unpredictable week for the ghost rider, who limped in at 4-8 (and that’s pretty generous if I do say so myself). A lot of big favorites came up just short, as did some of the heavy underdogs. With Duke apparently in Amsterdam this week (hide the women and children!) and Everett still trying to dry out lane 2, I was left to come up with my own spreads this week. Three weeks of spreads, three different line makers…Duke is going to love this. [Editor’s Note: Thanks for keeping it going. I’ll be back in action next week.]
6:30 Matches
No Mike in the Plumber’s Shed (-300) vs. Skeetastics – A big spread to start the night. The Foxons (+Mike) return after a week off and walk right back to lane 1 against Skeetastics who might be the league’s most volatile team after three weeks (677, 914, 777). I like the volatility and 300 is a lot to give (even if it’s my own spread) so I’ll go with the Skeetastics getting the points.
Beer! (-35) vs. The Big Leballskee – Thursday might not be the night to play Leballskee as they have improved by nearly 100 points each week thus far (675, 787, 860). I mentioned Adam last week and he improved again in week 3…but do he and a Leballskee have a 960 in the cards against Beer? I suspect not, but Beer has missed two of three weeks so they are not quite in peak form either. I’ll lean Beer in what is likely to be a close match.
Evil Skaneeval & The Hotskees vs. I Got Roofskeed? (-200) – Speaking of teams that got hot last week, what the hell got into Evil Skaneeval? They went from 857 and 730 in the first two weeks to a 1095 in week 3. Oh wait, upon further inspection, I see another super sub?!? Oy vey. How to figure this one out? I don’t know why I feel compelled to take Skaneeval here, but I’ll take them getting 200.
7:30 Matches
Thirskee Thursdays (-250) vs. Scrubskees – Thirskee Thursdays has coming fire out of the gates the last two weeks after an initial DNR. Scrubskees had a solid first two weeks and a DNR last week. Now they meet one lane 1. You might get sick of hearing me say it, but it’s the ultimate equalizer (for most rollers). That’s a big spread to cover on lane 1, so I’ll lean the ladies to give Thirskee a solid scrub down.
Boccskee vs. Hundos for Marnskee (-25) – Marnskee has a solid two weeks under its belt, while Boccskee made its first appearance last week and almost cracked the 900 mark. This could almost be a pick ‘em, and now I’m kicking myself a little giving Boccskee the points. Who set these lines?!? I’ll lean Boccskee coming off a strong first week to keep it rolling this week. [Editor’s Note: more like who set the match-up. This is a rivalry week match-up for the ages.]
The Night is Dark & Full of Skeeballs (-275) vs. Fettskee Wap – The surprising #3 team thus far this skeeson, The Night is Dark, comes in as a big favorite against Fettskee Wap who has also been a little up and down with a 661 and 822. I’ll lean with Dawson, Kyle, and Christina to hit the hundos in this matchup, but won’t be surprised if Fettskee finds their hundo and keeps this a close one.
8:30 Matches
Run D.M. Skee (-175) vs. Skeecows – My misplaced faith in Skeecows cost me the first two weeks, but I jumped off the bandwagon at the right time last week. Now they are back on lane 1 against veterans Run D.M. Skee who are coming off their first match last week and a solid 989. I don’t think Skee will have Skeecows walk their way, however, so I’m reluctantly back on the Skeecows this week.
Smooth vs. Skeejects (PK) – In a rematch from last week, the Skeejects and oh so Smooth move from lane 3 to lane 2. Skeejects got the better of this matchup last week, but I suspect the Smooth girls find their way again on lane 2 where they broke 800 in week 2. Smooth like a baby’s bottom.
Magically Skeelicious vs. Who’s your daddy? (-20) – This matchup on lane 3 is a battle of two teams that would be in the top if not for a DNR, but are within six points of each other based on the two weeks they’ve rolled. Defending champs Daddy are looking for Jobu’s magic, but Jan, Ryan, and Wes will say “eff you Jobu, I do it myself” en route to covering the 20 points.
9:30 Matches
Snakes on a Lane vs. Skeeing is Believing (PK) – An early skeeson matchup of the top two teams in the league. Both of these teams have come close to the chalice in the past, but haven’t quite made the shots when it counted. This could be a preview for Super Saturday, and a possible momentum builder for one of these teams. Hundos will be at a premium on lane 1, so it favors the better rollers up the middle. I’ll lean Snakes in a close one on another solid night from Pinball.
Ain’t Easy Being Skeesy (-200) vs. Skeese Pizza – After a slow start in week 1, Skeesy has fired off back- to-back weeks over 1000 (1118, 1027). I heard Skeese Pizza fell victim to lane 2 early last week and had to keep their score manually (side note: that blows!), which might have thrown them off their game a little bit. I have a feeling Skeesy will be firing on all cylinders again this week as Eric finds his form, so I’ll take Skeesy giving the points.
Skeezy Like Sunday Morning vs. Eskeemo Brothers (PK) – One of many pick ‘em matchups this week, Skeezy hasn’t seen the lanes since lane 1 while the Eskeemos have gradually gotten worse each week. I’ll take the Eskeemos in a close matchup on lane 3 as Skeezy will be a little rusty after a few weeks off.
10:30 Matches
Skeezy Like Sunday Morning vs. Why So Skeerious (-150)– Skeezy comes right back to lane 1 to take on another top ten team in Why So Skeerious. Even though lane 1 is the equalizer, I’ll lean on the up the middle game of Nick, Jeff, and Lucas to prevail in this battle and cover the points. Tough night for Skeezy.
Trickskee Little Hobbits (-250) vs. Can’t Skee Straight – Top five team Tricksee is a big favorite against Can’t Skee Straight. Pat, Robo, and Dionne on lane 2 is a big hurdle to overcome with the combos and hundos flying. Kelly, Sean, and Jeremy will give it their best shot, but I think they have too much of an uphill battle against the Hobbits.
Live Skee or Die (-200) vs. Can’t Believe It’s Not Gutter – Another team that has gradually improved each week is Live Skee or Die (944, 961, 999). Scottie might be rubbing off on the rookskees, but whether they can break the 300 mark individually and the 1000 mark as a team remains to be seen. Gutter has just one week under its belt, but I can’t see Live Skee outrolling them by more than 200 points so give me the Gutter!!
36 days to Super Saturday XIII and counting….Week 3: 4-8
Skeeson 13 Overall: 18-20
