Season 13 – Week 3 Picks
Greetings, high rollers! Two weeks into Skeeson 13 and we’re already a quarter of the way to Super Saturday. After some impressive rolling in week 1, a number of teams stepped up their game in week 2 while others regressed slightly (I’m lookin at you Plumbers). Nick Weir (Why So Skeerious) led the way in week 2 with a 448 while Thirskee Thursday rolled the highest team score at 1130…were the rumors of a super sub true? Kudos to Skeetastics (Caroline, David, Jill) for improving their team score by nearly 240 points in week 2; I heard they had Plumbers on the ropes until the last two frames and almost pulled the upset! (remember Duke set them as 400 point favorites last week?) [Editor’s Note: it’s called inspriation] Speaking of score improvement, Adam Schmitt went from not breaking 200 in week 1 to rolling a 300 in week 2. Someone found their forty!
On the matchup I front yours truly went 6-5 last week, slightly above break-even, which is all you can ask for. I was disappointed in some of the no-shows and DNRs last week because I have a hunch I would have had a few more right, but that’s the way it goes! Let’s get to the week 2 matches.
6:30 Matches
Ain’t Easy Being Skeezy (-175) vs. Eskeemo Brothers – Duke thought he sucked me into a bad line last week, but I had a hunch Skeezy was due for a big night and they didn’t disappoint with an 1102. Eskeemo Brothers are a little tougher to read with a DNR on the schedule in one of their two weeks. As I’ve mentioned before, Lane 1 is the difference maker so I’ll take the Brothers getting the points.
Skeese Pizza (-850) vs. OPEN – Can the ladies of Skeese Pizza break 850? Hmmm. Interestingly enough, their two-week average is just shy of 840. Bergstein had an off week last week so I see the girls riding a 250+ from Ida on the way to breaking 850 this week.
Skeetastics vs. Evil Skaneeval & The Hotskees (-1) – Who is setting these lines? One freaking point? Why not a pick em? Oh yeah, this week it’s Ev because Duke is in London the next two weeks chowing on fish & chips and chasing them with pints. Skeetastics aren’t as bad as week 1, and possibly not as good as last week, but I’ll take them in a close one over Skaneeval on the lane they crushed last week. [Editor’s Note: I would have set it as a pick, -1 is funny!]
7:30 Matches
Boccskee (-100) vs. Can’t Skee Straight – Speaking of not being able to get a read on a team, this will be the first match for Boccskee in skeeson 13, assuming they grace us with their presence this week. I don’t like the Boccskee boys giving 100 in their first match, but Jeremy, Kelly, and Sean have rolled just once this skeeson themselves. I don’t feel good about it, but give me Bockskee laying the points. [Editor’s Note: can we set an over under on Savani’s games rolled this season? +/- 2.5]
Beer (-100) vs. Big LeBallskee – Beer and big balls. Grizzled vets (Beer) and some relative newbies (LeBallskee). Loser buys the first round of white Russians?!? If so, I say LeBallskee will be picking up the tab as I’ll take Heather, Janelle, and Zach laying the points.
Thirskee Thursday (-275) vs. Scrubskees – Everett returns this week and it turns out it might be a bit of a letdown to his team after an unnamed super sub rolled 400+ last week*. But I say the ladies will give Thirskee a thorough Scrubskee this week and easily cover 275.
8:30 Matches
Who’s Your Daddy (-100) vs. I Skee Drunk People – Apparently Jobu was a little afraid of Skeezy last week as Who’s Your Daddy no-showed. Probably works in their favor as they were likely staring at 0-2. This week Daddy gets Joe, Tom, and Emily on lane 1 where they lost week 1. Tom has nowhere to go but up from his week 1 score of 250, so I’ll take Drunk People getting the points.
Run DM Skee (-200) vs. Fettskee Wap – Run DM Skee, another veteran squad, comes into week 3 also having not rolled this skeeson. 200 points is a lot for Justin/Kaitlyn/Kevin to cover right out of the gate, but I don’t know what to make of Fettskee Wap at this point so I’ll say Run DM Skee on lane 2 on the strength of hundos.
Skeejects vs. Smooth (-30) – The ladies of Smooth but up a solid 836, more than 100 points higher than week 1. Skeejects having been hanging in the mid-700s thus far. I’ll ride the hot hand of Smooth as they should cover the 30 points this week.
9:30 Matches
The Night is Dark & Full of Skeeballs vs. Trickskee Little Hobbits (-20) – A battle of two of SkeeBOSTON’s top four teams thus far with Skeeballs at #2 and Hobbits just 20 points behind at #4. It’s no surprise to see Pat “Alan” Bassett [Editor’s Note: Best nickname EVER] as the #1 roller thus far, but perhaps the biggest surprise in the early skeeson is John “Everything is” Dawson at #4 averaging a 408 thus far. I think Pat and Robo will have their combo game on fire so give me the Hobbits giving the 20 points.
Brewskees (-110) vs. Skee Cows – I expected a bounce back week from Skee Cows in week 2 and got the complete opposite. Brewskees on the other hand improved on week 1 and came in just short of 950 in week 2. I want off the Skee Cows bandwagon this week so I’ll take the Brewskees until Brittany/JP/Michelle can prove me wrong.
All the Single Ladieskees vs. Snakes on a Lane (-30) – Another solid matchup with #5 Snakes and #10 Ladieskees. The ladies held their own on lane 1 last week and should improve on lane 3 this week, but Coozie/Pinball/Tim will have a little too much in this matchup and should cover the 30 points.
10:30 Matches
Skeezy Like Sunday Morning vs. Chimpanskee Infatuation (-200) – Skeezy struggled to find their form in week 1, Chimpanskees (I can’t wait to hear the story behind this team name) have not yet rolled together. 200 points again seems like a lot to give here, but I’m going to lean on the Infatuated vets in
Greek and Jerry (they might be the two oldest guys in the league…Polischoke a close third?) with Nate to cover the 200.
Live Skee or Die vs. Why So Skeerious (-50) – Scottie Too Hottie and the two rookskees, Alex and Tom, have held their own so far averaging 950, good for #9 in the league. Skeerious returned from the summer of and put up back to back 1011 scores, putting them at #7. With a little improvement from the two rooksees Live Skee should pull this out over Jeff/Lucas/Nick getting the 50 points.
Skeeing is Believing (-310) vs. Clearly We’re Not Golfers – The last match of the night gets us to the biggest spread of the night (at least in a contested matchup). Skeeing is off to a hot start as the #3 team overall, just 20 points out of first. Golfers haven’t quite finished a full round yet, as they prefer to skip right to the 19th hole, but did improve by almost 50 points in week 2. I hate to give so many points – I think Skeeing is due for a bit of a regression this week and I expect Golfers to stripe their tee shots down the middle of the lanes. I’ll take Golfers and the points.
43 days to Super Saturday XIII and counting….
Week 2: 6-5
Skeeson 13 Overall: 14-12
