Season 14 – Week 3 Picks

Guest Writer

Greetings high rollers!

With week 2 in the rear-view mirror, we’re already a quarter of the way through skeeson 14….just seven weeks until the playoffs and Super Saturday XIV…mark your calendars now!

While there were some big scores in week 1, they got even bigger in week 2.  Nine rollers cracked the 400 mark, up from six last week, led by Chris Martin (Conspiraskee Theorists) with a 483 and followed closely by Stephanie Burgess (All the Single Ladies) and a 478.  It used to be that cracking 400 was good for a top 3 spot on the night – last week you had to beat 475 to crack the top 3!  Damn that’s some good rolling.  As I said last week, I expect scores will continue to go higher from here the rest of the skeeson, so everyone is on notice.  Find your forty!

Speaking of forties, the lack of 40 Streaks this skeeson is befuddling with just five total so far (five rollers with one a piece).  It appears to me that 40/50 Combos are the new 40 Streak as there 20 Combos on the board so far, led by Bobby Arguello (Trickskee Little Hobbits) with three.

On the team side, seven teams broke 1000 in week 2, up from six last week.  Three teams exceeded the 1100 point barrier, up from two last week, led by Skeeing is Believing and an 1127 in their first week back on the lanes.  Boy did I get that one wrong last week thinking they would be a little rusty. [Editor’s Note: sucker] Closely behind them last week were Trickskee Little Hobbits (1109) and the surprising All the Single Ladies (1103).  Steph has been a top roller in SkeeBOSTON for a number of skeesons, and she’s joined by two of the most improved rollers in the last few skeesons in Liz Wong and Jen Tanner.  These girls might be single (or not), but they’ve been an impressive threesome early on as just one of three teams to break the 1000 point barrier each week (Ain’t Easy Being Skeezy, Han Rolo).  Consistency matters, so we’ll see if the ladies can maintain the pace all skeeson.

It was a little better going for yours truly last week as I went 2-1 in my picks that actually showed up to roll…the DNRs are very frustrating!  Let’s get to it.

6:30: Conspiraskee Theorists (-160) vs. How Stella Got Her Skee Back! – After a week bye, the Theorists (formerly I Got Roofskeed) came out firing last week with a 1015.  One can only wonder what the score would have been if John “Polischoke” Polischuk hadn’t lived up to his nickname rolling a Choke-like 201.  The ladies of Stella (hmmmm…..beer) – Robyn, Jill, Caroline – got their groove on last week with a solid 887 also off a bye.  Polischoke might not break 250 this week (prediction: I’ll take the under), but Theorists will be a little too strong for Stella so I’ll give the points.

7:30: Beer! (-125) vs. Can’t Believe It’s Not Gutter – I hear that Beer! is on a mission.  Duke informs me that the team, despite having rolled every skeeson in SkeeBOSTON history (wow!), has yet to earn a single player card at skeeson end given to the top 30 rollers in the league.  Standing in the way of their high scores this week are seasoned vets from Gutter – Dale, Mike, and Regina.  I see Beer winning the match, but I’ll take Gutter getting the points. [Editor’s Note: Beer wins by at least 150. Mark is down.]

8:30: All The Single Ladies (-150) vs. Bad As I Wanna Skee – Single Ladies are currently the #2 team in SkeeBOSTON as noted earlier, so it will be interesting to see if they can stay there the rest of the skeeson (prediction:  they won’t).  Either way, they are a force to be reckoned with so far.  This week they get the feisty ladies of Bad As I Wanna Skee – Debbie, Emily, and Melissa.  Melissa is currently one of three rollers tied with two 40/50 Combos on the skeeson, just one behind Bobby.  I’ll roll with the hot hand in Burgess and take the Single Ladies giving the points. [Editor’s Note: you aren’t going to do well this week.]

9:30:  Brewskees vs. Ain’t Easy Being Skeezy (-125) – Another feisty team of ladies is Brewskees – Jess, Kim, and Kori.  They’re coming off a bye last week, but they had a solid showing in week 1 and could give Skeezy, currently the #1 team in the league with three top-30 rollers, a run for their money on lane 1.  Give me Skeezy giving the points in a tough matchup. [Editor’s Note: this is a toss up. I have no idea who to take in this one.]

10:30: Eskeemo Brothers (-100) vs. Wonder Bread and Orange Chicken  – I’m really confused by some of the team names this skeeson and Wonder Bread and Orange Chicken (WAOC) might be the most confusing of them all.  If Liz, Meghan, or Steven could clue me in at some point it would be greatly appreciated…do they have a trophy for best team name in their future? Anyone?  The vets of Eskeemo Brothers – Rick, Ryan, Steve – should win straight up, but I’ll take WAOC getting the points.  Because who doesn’t love Wonder Bread and Orange Chicken?!?

Week 2:  2-1
Skeeson 14 to date:  3-4

Skee you on the lanes!!
